Human-Computer Communication through Mid-Air Haptic Cues

Beschreibung

In human-computer interaction the allocation of users’ attention and the communication of key system information is crucial. Haptic feedback is a promising addition to visual and audio feedback as these communication channels are often heavily used in human-computer interaction. Mid-Air Haptic (MAH) feedback systems have been shown to increase immersion, improve the usability of gesture-based interactions and thus are suitable for communicating system information.
Mid-Air Haptic feedback can be generated through ultrasonic feedback devices or air-based devices. Both technologies have their own unique properties.
The design and evaluation of feedback patterns to convey specific system information is the goal of the thesis. The specific research question for the thesis will be cooperatively derived before the start of the thesis. Research questions can range from more technical aspects, i.e. development of feedback patterns with light programming work, to aspects more in the domain of human factors.
Language: English or German.
