The properties of low dimensional electron gases at interfaces are strongly altered. Electronic correlation and many-body effects lead to strong renormalization of the Fermi-liquid, e.g. to bosonization giving rise to the phenomena of Luttinger liquids, 2D-superconductivity or Majorana states. Furthermore, the spin of the propagating electrons triggers sustainably the properties of recently discovered quantum phases and also future device concepts, e.g. topological insulators, spin-QHE or the Datta-Das transistor. The obvious consideration of both spin-orbit coupling and electronic correlation is expected to reveal new exotic states of quantum matter.
This symposium aims to bring together leading scientists from different disciplines to examine the potential of this rather unexplored field of research.
