What is a database ?

In the library we understand a database to be a database application. In these you can query large collections of data in a structured way. This can be data from library catalogs, bibliographies or text collections.

To put it more simply: a database contains as much literature as possible, for example articles from subject specific journals, on a specific topic, independent of the library's holdings. All databases can be found in the database information system .
