HYP*MOL - Hyperpolarization in molecular systems

DFG Transregio-Programm TRR 386

Chiral nanoclusters for spin hyperpolarization upon photoexcitation (subproject B3)

Chiral molecules act as electron spin polarizers during charge transfer, a property known as CISS (chirality-induced spin selectivity). Novel (achiral or chiral) bismuth-oxide-based nanoclusters (BiON) as light absorbers with tunable optical absorption, linked to a ferromagnetic substrate via helical polypeptides, are expected to enable light-induced CISS. The interplay between chirality, absorption properties and efficiency of spin hyperpolarization is investigated by means of circular dichroism spectroscopy and (magneto-) optical spectroscopy.
