Topic

The project aims at identifying, characterizing and testing driving cues that are applied by manual drivers. These cues should provide the basis for intuitive interaction capabilities in automated vehicles to support user acceptance and comfort. Therefore, vehicle-to-vehicle communication with a detailed consideration of implicit driving cues such as vehicle movements (e.g., acceleration, deceleration) is investigated. The research questions of the project are addressed by various, yet complementary methods: a secondary data analysis, a naturalistic driving study, lab and online studies with constructed on-road video recordings, driving simulator studies and an on-road study. The research results provide a basis for technical implementations of intuitive interaction capabilities in automated vehicles, with a particular focus on implicit communication.
