Colors and Gazes: Robot Intentions Towards the User

Robot-arm setup including display with eyes constructing something with lego duplo like bricks.Image of our robot platform.

In the context of Industry 5.0, there is a growing focus on collaboration between humans and robots. However, the basis for this is that the human understands the robot's intentions. For this purpose, the robot first task is to add a modifiable color/illuminated band that can be attached to different parts of the robot. Next, methods are to be developed as to how the robot can reflect its intentions by means of color representation. Firstly through the color band, secondly through color display via a table projection and thirdly through virtual eyes.

Based on the different intention representations, a study is to be carried out to investigate the effect of the individual intentions. A robot workstation equipped with cameras, table projection, microphone and loudspeakers is available for the work. The control of the robot and the virtual eyes are fully implemented and can be easily controlled via an API.
