International Symposium on Electrochemical Machining Technology – INSECT

This international symposium allows engineers and scientists who work in the field of electro-chemical machining to exchange and discuss ideas and experiences. The symposium focuses not only on technical aspects, such as microstructuring of surfaces, technology and machine development, but is also interested in fundamental research in electrochemistry on electrode-boundary surfaces and new materials.

INSECT 2022

The 18th International Symposium on Electrochemical Machining Technology was held in Tokyo on Nov. 14–15 2022, the first time it was held outside of Europe. The organizer, the Japan Society of Electrical Machining Engineers, offered the opportunity to participate both online and on-site at the University of Tokyo campus. The 27 research papers presented were published in conference proceedings with ISBN 978-4-915698-21-7.

INSECT 2021

The 17th International Symposium on Electrochemical Machining Technology was held on 25th and 26th of November 2021. The event was organized by the research group "Micro- & Precision Engineering" from KU Leuven, Belgium. The symposium has attracted 41 research papers with author affiliations from 13 countries. The conference proceeding were made available under the ISBN 978-9-08289-313-7.

INSECT 2020

In 2020, the 16th International Symposium on Electrochemical Machining Technology was organized by the Fraunhofer Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technology IWU Chemnitz and the Professorship Micromanufacturing Technology of Chemnitz University of Technology. More than 50 scientists met to present and discuss recent research results related to electrochemical machining. The conference transcript was made available under the ISBN 978-3-95735-125-8.

INSECT 2019

In 2019, the 15th International Symposium on Electrochemical Machining Technology took place at the Universität des Saarlandes in Saarbrücken with the organisation through Lehrstuhls für Fertigungstechnik. 59 scientists met to present and discuss the newest research results related to electrochemical machining. The conference transcript was made available under the following ISBN 978-3-00-064086-5.

INSECT 2018

14th International Symposium on Electrochemical Machining Technology
Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Engineering (WZL) of RWTH Aachen University, Aachen, 27. November 2018 – 28. November 2018

In 2018, INSECT was held at the Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Engineering (WZL) of RWTH Aachen University. 61 scientists participated to report the latest findings in the field of electrochemical machining technology. The symposium resulted in an edited volume with ISBN 978-3-86359-667-5.

13th International Symposium on Electrochemical Machining Technology
Fraunhofer Institute for Ceramic Technologies and Systems, Dresden, 30. November 2017 – 1. December 2017

On 30th November 2017 and 1st December 2017, INSECT was held at the Fraunhofer IKTS in Dresden. 49 scientists participated to report the latest findings in the field of electrochemical machining technology. The symposium resulted in an edited volume with 15 technical contributions and a length of 109 pages (ISBN: 978-3-8396-1261-3).

12th International Symposium on Electrochemical Machining Technology
Free University Brussels (Vrije Universiteit Brussel), 17. – 18. November 2016

On 17th and 18th November 2016, INSECT was organized by the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium. 46 scientists participated to report the latest findings in the field of electrochemical machining technology. The symposium resulted in an edited volume with 17 technical contributions and a length of 142 pages (ISBN: 978-9-4619746-1-7).

INSECT 2015

11th International Symposium on Electrochemical Machining Technology
Institute for Chemical Technology of Inorganic Materials, Johannes Kepler University Linz, 12.- 13. November 2015

On 12th and 13th November 2015, the INSECT took place in Linz. During the conference 43 scientists participated to report about the latest research findings in the field of electrochemical machining technology. The symposium resulted in an edited volume with 10 technical contributions on 85 pages.

During the event, 92 scientists participated to report about the latest research findings in the field of electrochemical machining technology. Eigth International Symposium on Electrochemical Machining Technology
INSTITUTE OF ADVANCED MANUFACTURING TECHNOLOGY, Krakau, 18.- 19. Oktober 2012

On 18th and 19th October 2012, the INSECT took place at IOS Institute of Advanced Manufacturing Technology in Krakow. During the event, 47 scientists participated to report about the latest research findings in the field of electrochemical machining technology. The symposium resulted in an edited volume with 12 technical contributions on 174 pages. (ISBN: 978-83-931339-5-6).

INSECT 2011

Seventh International Symposium on Electrochemical Machining Technology
Centre of Electrochemical Surface Technology (CEST), Vienna, 3. - 4. November 2011

On 3rd and 4th November 2011, the INSECT took place at the Museum of Natural History Vienna. During the event, 66 scientists participated to report about the latest research findings in the field of electrochemical machining technology. The symposium resulted in an edited volume with nineteen technical contributions (ISBN: 978-3-00-036247-7).
During the second day of the symposium, the participants were also given the opportunity to visit the CEST laboratories.

INSECT 2010

Sixth International Symposium on Electrochemical Machining Technology
Free University Brussels (Vrije Universiteit Brussel), Brussels, 4. - 5. November 2010

On 4th and 5th November 2010, INSECT took place at the Free University in Brussels, Belgium. Sixty-six scientists participated to report the latest findings in the field of electrochemical machining technology. The symposium resulted in an edited volume with seventeen technical contributions and a length of 148 pages (ISBN: 978-90-5487-818-6).

INSECT 2009

Fifth International Symposium on Electrochemical Machining Technology
Fraunhofer Institute for Ceramic Technologies and Systems, Dresden, 26. - 27. November 2009

On 26 and 27 November 2009, INSECT was held at the Fraunhofer IKTS in Dresden. Eighty scientists from ten countries, e.g. from the United States and Nigeria, met to report their latest findings in the field of the electrochemical machining technology. The symposium resulted in an edited volume with sixteen contributions on 130 pages (ISBN: 978-3-8396-0076-4).

INSECT 2007

Fourth International Symposium on Electrochemical Machining Technology
Fraunhofer-Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technology IWU, Chemnitz, 25. - 26. October 2007

Eighty-four scientists from fourteen countries, such as the USA, Japan, and India, exchanged their current research findings. At the conference, numerous use-related results were introduced for process and machine developments. The conference also focused on process bases for electrochemical machining as well as on modeling and simulation. The conference was organized by the Fraunhofer IWU and the Professorship Micromanufacturing Technology and resulted in a 176-page long edited volume with twenty-two contributions (ISBN 978-3-00-022770-7). The proceedings of this conference initiate a series on Precision and Microproduction Engineering.
