Anglophone Area Studies

Anglophone Area Studies (AAS) constitute an inter-disciplinary, social science oriented programme of studying the English-speaking world. It offers regular courses on the social, political and cultural development of Britain, the United States as well as selected other English-speaking countries. AAS are based on theoretical and methodological pluralism, though strongly emphasise a historical and a comparative perspective. Research and teaching focus on questions of territorial politics, nationalism, identity and social movements. However, students are strongly encouraged to develop their own interests and expertise within the broad remit of this research field.
