AvH Network visit Josef Schmied to Cameroon in July 2015
Our long-term research partner Prof. Daniel Nkemleke had been awarded an Alexander von Humboldt Alumni Prize for Innovative Research Networks 2014 and organized a conference at the German Centre at Yaoundé I:
In Yaoundé, Prof Schmied had the opportunity to visit schools to find suitable partners for students’ internships/placements:
Prof. Schmied also met his old research partners, Prof. Simo Bobda (1995) and Prof. Paul Mbagwana (1999), and his “old” PhD students from Cameroon, Dr. Samuel Atechi and Dr. Balbia Mesue Ebong (2004):
During the following study tour, they visited other universities after Yaoundé I/Ecole Normale Superieure:
During the tour through several provinces, they were able to compare language use in the Anglophone and francophone parts of Cameroon:
A special, controversial problem is the use of pidgin, which is strongly discouraged, esp. in the Anglophone parts:
THE cultural highlight of the trip was the visit to the Sultan of Foumban, but also the Chefferies in Maleng and Bafout, the Musée des Civilisations in Chang and the Bimbia Slave Trade Site near Limbe, which provided many interesting Tales:
