Teaching internship at Sun Yat-sen University Winter Term 2014/15

A Unique Experience

In September 2014, I headed out to start a teaching internship at Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou and Zhuhai. My responsibilites included teaching German at the German Department of the School of Foreign Languages, both as supplemental and as mandatory courses. I have been teaching students at both, the campus in Guangzhou and the campus in Zhuhai.

Moreover, I got the unique opportunity to participate in a volunteer teaching project at a high school in Zhuhai.

Apart from all the work, there is of course the thrilling experience of exploring a whole new culture. While this can seem a bit overwhelming at first, step by step I found out little things that are different or not so different at all. Finding these things out is always a little adventure, which, however, is very pleasant, since the Chinese people are very warm and welcomming and more than willing to help you with the struggle of fitting in to the new environment.
