Independent, amateur and student theatre is by nature very volatile. So the following does not claim to be an exhaustive list.
In contrast to the established theatres these groups do not perform regularly and you should check their web sites if they have one or phone them. TACH Karl-Liebknecht-Str. 19, 5th floor 0371/429822 or 429823 "Theater Arbeitsloser CHemnitz" An theatre project run by unemployed. They have their own little stage which used to be the stage of the First Cabaret of Chemnitz. Their repertoire includes plays and cabaret, both naturally dealing with social issues, but also children's programmes. They perform fairly regularly. Have a look at their page!! UNART Contact: Johannes und Anke Rödel 0371/307708 Another "art" hidden in a German word, but at least it make sense. UNART is an amateur theatre project that perform on various stages with about one production a year. So watch out for dates. There is a site about one of their productions. MUSICAL AG T.I.M.E. A theatre project on one of the schools in Chemnitz, but more than just the result of a few school drama classes. Quite a few of successful productions so far. Have a look at their site ! YORICKS SCHELLEN "Alas, poor Yorick! I knew him, Horatio ..." Student theatre. "of infinite jest, of most excellent fancy ..." and (hopefully) still alive and kicking. Recent productions included an adaptation of Terry Pratchett's "Discworld" and an Ephraim Kishon play. Performances have been in Vettersstraße 64, which is one of the student's halls of residence. At the moment rehearsals are runing for Tom Stoppards The Real Inspector Hound, which should, of course, by right and indeed - staged by the English Drama group!! But never mind and watch out for posters around the campus. |
