International Intellectual Property Day on 26 April 2020

Patent Information Centre at Chemnitz University of Technology participates with its own programme - Corona-related postponement to 17 September 2020

Every year, World Intellectual Property Day is celebrated on April 26. This day highlights the importance of intellectual property rights in promoting innovation and creativity. The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) is behind this event. This year, the World Intellectual Property Day is being held with the motto "Innovate for a green future.” WIPO wants to raise awareness that "the products we buy, the research we fund, the companies we support, and the policies and laws we develop determine how green our future is.”

Chemnitz University of Technology is participating in the World Intellectual Property Day with a day of action. However, due to corona, this day has been postponed until September 2020. On 17 September 2020, the Patent Information Centre (PIZ) of Chemnitz University of Technology will hold a two-part event in the morning on "Technology Transfer in Practice" and a "Patent and Know-how Exchange" on "Lightweight Construction" in the afternoon. The Patent and Know-How Exchange is taking place for the third time and is organised by the members of the Chemnitz Patent Office. Both events will take place on the campus site “Reichenhainer Straße”. The exact venue will be announced later. Interested parties from research, industry and students are cordially invited.

Both events are free of charge for members of the university. Registration is requested. The registration for the conference "Technology Transfer in Practice" can be found here and for the "Patent and Know-How Exchange" via the Chamber of Industry and Commerce Chemnitz here.

Background: World Intellectual Property Day

In 2000, WIPO member states declared April 26 - the day on which the WIPO Convention came into force in 1970 - as World Intellectual Property Day, in order to improve the general understanding of intellectual property rights, such as patents, trademarks, product designs and copyrights.

Since then, each year World Intellectual Property Day has provided a unique opportunity to reflect with others around the world on how intellectual property contributes to the development of music and art and to the technological innovation that shapes our world.
