Deutschlandticket Upgrade Becomes Easier, More Flexible, and Digital for Students

Following successful negotiations by the StuRa of Chemnitz University of Technology, the procedure for the Deutschlandticket Upgrade for students with the student annual ticket will improve from the winter semester 2023/2024

The Student Council (StuRa) of Chemnitz University of Technology (TUC) and the Chemnitzer Verkehrs-Aktiengesellschaft (CVAG) have, after successful negotiations, agreed on a simplified procedure for the Deutschlandticket Upgrade for the TUC student annual ticket for the upcoming winter semester.

The upgrade can now be booked within the current calendar month for the same month – previously, bookings had to be made by the 20th of the previous month. Furthermore, the cancellation of the upgrade can now be made up to the last day of a calendar month. Previously, it had to be canceled by the 10th of the current month. The Deutschlandticket Upgrade will cost 17.12 EUR per month in the upcoming winter semester. The price is calculated from the difference between the price of the Deutschlandticket (currently: 49 EUR) and the monthly price of the student annual ticket (currently: 31.88 EUR).

Along with the increased flexibility in booking and canceling the upgrade, there's a simplified eligibility check and an expansion of payment methods for students. Thus, the University Computing Center (URZ) connected the TUC's Web Trust Center to the CVAG's sales platform for the Deutschlandticket. This means students can now prove their eligibility for the upgrade to CVAG after logging in with their TUC login, for which previously, a separate login on an external platform and a signed PDF were required. Payment for the upgrade can now be made not only by direct debit but also for the first time by credit card (Mastercard, VISA, AMEX) and PayPal.

"We thank CVAG for providing our students with a modern and user-friendly platform. With the newly gained flexibility, we expect a significant increase in the use of the Deutschlandticket Upgrade," says Marius Hirschfeld, head of transport and mobility for the StuRa.

The President of TUC, Prof. Dr. Gerd Strohmeier, is very pleased: "I am delighted that our students can now use a simplified process to book the Deutschlandticket Upgrade. I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to our StuRa and our University Computing Center, which has provided exceptional support in this regard."

The student annual ticket is a discounted transport ticket for all students of Chemnitz University of Technology and, in terms of coverage, is the most comprehensive ticket of all Saxon universities and colleges. It's valid in many networks in Saxony, including in the Central Verkehrsverbund Mittelsachsen, on all local trains, and on the IC between Chemnitz and Dresden. The fee is paid upon enrollment or re-registration by the students and amounts to 191.28 Euros for the student annual ticket in the winter semester 2023/2024.

Further information can be obtained from the StuRa via e-mail to deutschlandticket@stura.tu-chemnitz.de and in a special FAQ section. The StuRa is also available for feedback and tips on the upgrade at this e-mail address.
