New Appointment at the University
In February, the President of Chemnitz University of Technology appointed a new professor – Prof. Dr. Markus Richter leads the Professorship of Technical Thermodynamics
The President of Chemnitz University of Technology, Prof. Dr. Gerd Strohmeier, appointed a new professor to the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering on 1 February 2019.
About Prof. Dr. Markus Richter
Prof. Dr. Markus Richter has been the head of the Professorship of Applied Thermodynamics at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering since 1 February 2019. In the future, Richter and his group will focus on fundamental research on thermodynamic properties of fluid substances as well as on applied research topics that are relevant to the transition to renewable energy and the use of alternative feedstocks (the raw material transition).
After studying mechanical engineering at Ruhr University Bochum, Markus Richter worked there for several years as research associate at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering; during this time, he received his doctorate. Various extended research stays have taken him to the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Boulder, Colorado (USA), and the University of Western Australia. As of May 2015, Richter has headed an Emmy Noether Group at Ruhr University Bochum. A year later, he was appointed as Junior Professor of Experimental Properties Research in Thermodynamics. His research is a part of the "RESOLV" Cluster of Excellence and the DFG Collaborative Research Center 129 "Oxyflame". In January 2018, Richter was admitted into the North Rhine-Westphalian Academy of Sciences, Humanities and the Arts.
