Research Interests/Forschungsschwerpunkte

My name is Nonjabulo Ndlovu, a PhD candidate from University of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa. I am currently doing research on the topic of Innovative procurement policies in enhancing socio economic growth through small, medium and micro enterprises in ensuring a sustainable construction sector in South Africa. This research topic is aligned on the Sustainable development goal 8, which talks about sustainable development and the promotion of policies to support job creation and growing enterprises. The research is aimed at addressing the current challenges of high unemployment rate and high failure rate of SMMEs in the country, which is contrary to the Government's National Development Plan, with an objective of creating more jobs and curb unemployment by 2030 in SA.

The focus of the research is more on procurement policies, especially since there are policies introduced after the introduction of the new democratic government, to uplift the previously disadvantaged entrepreneurs. I was born and bred in the province of KwaZulu-Natal and currently work for KwaZulu Natal Provincial Treasury part of my work is to support SMMEs which developed a huge interest in me to undertake the research in order to be able to identify the gaps that could be the cause and come up with solutions to the slow progress in economic development and the sustainability of SMMEs as they are seen as an important tool in creating jobs in large numbers.
