Overview: Research in the group

Research in the group spans a variety of topics, ranging from

  1. homogeneous catalysis with transition metals (ligand design and method development for organic synthesis) and organometallic chemistry over to
  2. the synthesis of complex hydrocarbon molecules and their behaviour with respect to (homo)aromaticity and photoswitching, physical organic chemistry

While the major topic of the catalysis research projects revolves around the development of efficient methods for H2 activation and H2 utilization with 3d transition metal catalysts, the focus of the second research program is of more fundamental interest. Here, we are interested in the fundemantal understanding and study of homoaromatic organic molecules and their behaviour as photoswitches.

We also spend some time on synthesizing biologically active molecules in collaboration with research partners in the clinic.
