Trying out Research

Would you like to find out what awaits you in a chemistry degree program? Would you like to gain an insight into everyday university life and get to know the Institute of Chemistry better? Then you've come to the right place! Below you will find a list of all the offers at the Institute of Chemistry that will enable you to do just that. Further offers - collected for all faculties of Chemnitz University of Technology - can also be found in the student portal [de].

The school laboratory is currently under development and is expected to be ready for use at the beginning of 2025. Please contact Prof. Robert Kretschmer:

Target Audience: school class or small group (minimum 5 people)

Date: upon arrangement, two to six hours

Program: the institute opens its doors for exciting insights into the study of chemistry and offers you the opportunity to take a look behind the scenes with the following program items:

  • lecture on the profession of chemist and the wide range of career opportunities
  • laboratory tour
  • discussion and Q&A session with students about studying chemistry and student life
  • experimental part

Target Audience: pupils from the 5th grade

Date: 25.04.2024, whole day

Program: on this day of action, which takes place once a year, you are cordially invited to get to know the university and, of course, our Institute of Chemistry in particular. You can expect exciting laboratory tours as well as lectures and discussion rounds on the job description of a chemist and everyday student life. For reasons of space, the number of participants is limited to 20, which is why registration is required.

Target Audience: female pupils from 8th to 12th grade

Date: one semester, exact time frame freely selectable

Progra m: 

  • pupils are assigned a student from the STEM field for one semester. You can attend lectures together
  • laboratory tour
  • discussion and Q&A session with students about studying chemistry and student life
  • experimental part

Target Audience: chemistry enthusiasts of all ages, pupils, teachers and parents

Program: exciting experimental lecture in the pre-Christmas period, organized by the Professorship of Inorganic Chemistry. Information on previous events can be found on the website of the City of Chemnitz [de].

Program: in addition to the Chemistry degree program, many other degree programs and offers at Chemnitz University of Technology will be presented. Time will be taken to answer questions and give an insight into future student life. Further information can be found on the Open House Day [de] page.

Target Audience: Pupils, prospective students, TU graduates and the general public

Date: 27.04.2024 6 pm to 11.30 pm

Program: the night will show fascinating and comprehensive insights into numerous research areas at Chemnitz University of Technology and invites you to discover, marvel and talk to scientists. Further information can be found on the TU Chemnitz events page.

The campaign day "Doors Open with the Mouse" takes place every year on October 3rd. The Institute of Chemistry participates here, further information can be found on the Sendung mit der Maus [de] website.
