Partners

Funding

Unfallforschung der Versicherer (UDV)

Duration

04/2012-04/2014

Description

ActiveEIn recent years, electric bicycles (pedelecs) became more and more important and in the future it is expected that the spreading will increase. Through the assistance also people with physical limitation are able to be mobile by bicycle again.

Until now little is known about mobility and safety behavior of pedelecs. In this project safety-relevant aspects in combination with mobility issues are investigated with the innovative method of "Naturalistic Cycling Study". At this, especially the speed of pedelecs is interesting because of the electrical assistance potential higher speeds can be reached compared to conventional bicycles.

The task of the TU Chemnitz is to coordinate and conduct the Naturalistic Cycling Study. For four weeks, the trips of the cyclists and pedelec riders are recorded by cameras and sensors attached to the bicycles. Furthermore, through surveys the subjective experiences of the users are gathered.
