Integration of travel time information on variable message signs (VMS)

Partner

BASt: Bundesanstalt für Straßenwesen (German Federal Highway Research Institute)

Description

Information about anticipated travel times are a key information on the driver's route choice behavior. This project examines how such information, displayed on variable message signs, should be designed to support drivers in their decision to bypass a traffic jam. Design criteria are fast readability, comprehensibility, and acceptance. Results provide a recommendation on how to display travel times on German VMS ("Dynamische Wegweiser mit integrierten Stauinformationen - dWiSta").
