Social Program — Cultural Activities
The traditional social program of the Jahrestagung took place online this year as well. On Wednesday, 16th of September from 18:00-19:30, we organized a virtual cultural event, which had two parts:
- A video tour through the city of Chemnitz and its principal attractions, including the famous Soviet style Karl Marx monument, the Villa Esche designed by Henry van de Velde, and the Water Castle Klaffenbach built in Renaissance style.
Participants became acquainted with the
history of Chemnitz,
which grew from a mining hub of the Erzgebirge mountain region in the 16th century (now designated a UNESCO World Heritage site) to the most dynamically developing industrial city of 19th-century Germany.
- A virtual visit to the Gunzenhauser Museum specializing in
German Expressionism with substantial collections of works by Otto Dix and Alexej von Jawlensky as well as the special exhibition "Art has become abstract" devoted to the documenta II, 1959.
