Junior Research Group „HEA-SurfProtect“: Surface protection through high entropy alloys
On 1 January 2020, the ESF junior research group „HEA-SurfProtect“ started with significant participation of the WOT professorship. This measure is funded by the European Social Fund and co-financed by tax revenue on the basis of the budget passed by the members of the Saxon State Parliament.
At the beginning of the year, the interdisciplinary junior research group „High Entropy Alloys as Coating Materials for Surface Protection Applications - HEA-SurfProtect“, funded by the European Social Fund (ESF) and the Free State of Saxony, started. The group was initiated by the WOT professorship. The professorships of Composites and Material Composites, Microfabrication Technology, Numerical Mathematics (Partial Differential Equations) and Experimental Physics with a focus on Technical Physics are also involved in the three-year funded project. The aim of the group is to further develop high entropy alloys for processing adapted to coating technologies in order to transfer this new class of materials to semi-finished products and components with different coating thickness requirements. The approach thus serves lightweight material construction. The planned transfer of results to the manufacturer and user side benefits the medium-sized industry in Saxony, which effectively contributes to the preservation and creation of new jobs in the industrial sector of surface technology.
