3rd IWW Colloquium and General Meeting InnoMat IWW e.V.
On 11.11.2021, the 3rd IWW Colloquium took place, due to the current situation in a purely online format. The audience, which consisted of students, staff and former colleagues of the Institute of Materials Science and Engineering (IWW), enjoyed warm greetings and interesting and entertaining lectures.
The digital greetings were addressed to the audience by Mr Werner Krömmer (Chairman of the Gesellschaft Thermisches Spritzen e.V., GTS), Mr Rainer Venz (Past President of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Galvano- und Oberflächentechnik e.V., DGO) as well as Dr Roland Boecking (Chief Executive of the Deutscher Verband für Schweißen und verwandte Verfahren e.V., DVS), and in particular also to the Chairman of Innomat IWW e.V. and Professor Emeritus of IWW Prof. Bernhard Wielage.
Afterwards, Prof. Guntram Wagner, Institute Director of the IWW, informed about various news from the Institute of the past year. This was followed by two technical lectures in which the audience was taken on an exciting journey. Dr. Frank Schreiber from DURUM Verschleißschutz GmbH thrilled the audience with his lecture on „Salvage of submarines and large ships by using build-up welded saws“ with an excursion into the underwater world. Prof. Sebastian Weis from the West Saxon University of Applied Sciences Zwickau took the audience on an exciting journey through time from soldering in antiquity to soldering in virtual reality in his lecture „Soldering - A process with a great past and an even greater future“.
In the run-up to the IWW colloquium, the general meeting of the association „Innovative Materials, Institute for Materials Science and Engineering“ (InnoMat IWW e.V.) also took place in a digital setting. This association is an alumni network of the IWW, which is intended to remain in contact with the (former) employees even after they have left the institute and to promote further exchange and cooperation. Those interested in membership can contact Ines Gora (ines.gora@mb.tu-chemnitz.de) for more information.
