WOT excursion to Scholz Recycling GmbH
On 16 September 2023, the employees of the WOT professorship were able to visit Scholz GmbH together at one of its largest processing sites in Espenhain near Leipzig. We spent three hours on site and learnt first-hand about the challenges and physical limits of separating and recycling scrap. The highlight was the guided tour of the company premises, where we experienced the impressive processes involved in handling and processing several hundred thousand tonnes of scrap every year.
Scholz Recycling GmbH is part of the Scholz Group, which consists of a global network of branch offices and other companies and holdings in the field of recycling and processing mixed and metal scrap. The group of companies is one of the few recyclers worldwide to offer all activities for the processing of metals from a single source – i.e. from collection and pre-separation to shredding, sorting, sifting and further processing of the shredder heavy and light fractions, the complete process chain is carried out, which enables the direct return of e.g. ferrous scrap, alloy steels, aluminium or plastics into the respective material cycles.
