Participation of Dr. Todt at the Workshop for Early Career Investigators “Ceramic Materials” by the DFG
As part of the workshops for early career investigators by the German Research Foundation (“Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft”, DFG), eleven selected international young PhD researchers were invited to Saarbrücken (Germany) from November 13 to November 16, 2018, for the further scientific development and presentation of their research topics. Among the guests were major international researchers from the field of ceramic materials. The workshop for early career investigators by the DFG was hosted and moderated by Mr. PD Dr.-Ing. Falk from the Saarland University in Saarbrücken.
We are happy that Dr. Andreas Todt from the Chair of Composites and Material Compounds was among the invited guests. He presented the research topic of his initial DFG application entitled “Novel customized carbon based ceramic matrix composites with reproducible and variably controllable microstructures – NeoCer”. The scientific discovery of complex microstructural processes during the genesis of composites represent a relevant milestone in the field of carbon matrix composites. This should make it possible to generate and functionalise them is a scientifically defined way. Known representatives include ceramical brake discs, turbine components, high-accuracy standard or charging systems. In the end, Dr. Todt was asked to submit his initial application to the DFG by the end of February 2019.
