English Practical Language Programme

Approach

Our courses are communicative because repetitive language exercises and pattern drill, while useful at a basic stage, are no substitute for communicative activities in developing near-native proficiency in a foreign language. A language is a living medium!

Our courses are integrated because everyday language use consists of an interaction of the Four Skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing). Providing ample opportunities for language practice and imparting solid knowledge of grammar, vocabulary and phonetics, we place an emphasis on fluency as well as accuracy of language use.

Our courses are interactive because successful communication means interactive communication – speakers and writers must put themselves in the listeners' and readers' shoes, and listeners and readers must know how to successfully decode the messages they receive.

Our courses are intercultural because appropriate communication with native and non-native speakers requires not only correct grammar, vocabulary and style, but also intercultural knowledge and awareness of cultural contexts and communicative strategies.

Our courses are innovative because we constantly strive to keep ourselves at the forefront of new teaching methods and technologies and to integrate them into our teaching. We draw on traditional and new media forms for classroom instruction as well as for learning outside of the classroom.
