Mikveh as a Use Case

Mikwe

During construction work in 2022, an early modern mikveh, a Jewish ritual bath, was discovered near the Johanniskirche in Chemnitz. It represents the oldest evidence of Jewish tradition in the city. For conservation reasons, it was reburied, making it currently neither visible nor accessible. Through the use of AR, the mikveh can be made accessible despite being underground, preserving it as an element of Jewish culture in Chemnitz.

AR technology should be used to connect real locations that are important to Chemnitz's history and community with multimedia information. AR refers to the overlay of real objects and places with digital elements. This can be done, for example, via a smartphone that displays additional content on the screen over the camera image. In addition to text, images or 3D objects can also be integrated.
