Sensors have become an indispensable part of our everyday lives. When operating our cell phone alone, we use a device in which many sensors are installed. Part of the research in our group consists of analyzing with different sensors. In general, there are different types of sensors including mechanical, resistive, piezoelectric, capacitive, thermoelectric, inductive, optical, acoustic and chemical sensors. There is also a wide range of applications, e.g. from temperature and pressure measurements to the detection of gases and biological substances.

Past and current theses in our group deal with the sound analysis of various instruments, including a bassoon and an organ. This involves investigating the sound waves of different tones. Various sensors are used to record the sound at different positions, i.e. at different distances from the instrument, and to define comparisons.
