Data storage

Data storage devices usually appears in mechanical (e.g. punched tape), optical (e.g. CD, DVD), electronic (e.g. DRAM), or magnetic (e.g. hard disk) form. In general, the data can be stored in the analog and the digital format, either volatile or non-volatile. The maximization of data density in either two or three dimensions, and the minimization of data access time, are in the focus of research and optimization of materials and data architectures.
