Testing for the project SENDA on early detection of dementia is running successfully

We have been carrying out testing for the research project “SENDA - Sensor-based systems for early detection of dementia” (ESF project number 100310502) since February 2018 in the Sports Psychology and Movement Sciences laboratories at the Chemnitz University of Technology. By the end of July 2019 we had recruited 198 participants aged ≥ 80 years, who each took part in three tests at the first measurement time point.

Mean age at study entry was 82.6 years. The oldest person was 91 years old at study entry. With 98 male participants and 100 female participants the sample displays a very even gender ratio.

In order to investigate changes over time for all parameters, each participant is invited for repeat testing every 8 months at the laboratories of TU Chemnitz. Depending on the time of entry into the study we are able to carry out tests at up to 4 points in time. 104 participants have already attended their first repeat test. In June and July 2019 a group of 46 people already attended testing for the SENDA-study for their third time.

We greatly appreciate all our participantsʼ help!

We will resume repeat testing in October 2019. Additionally we are looking for further participants, so that by the conclusion of the study in July 2010 we will, as planned, have tested 240 people. Participants who are joining the study now will not undergo repeat testing. If you are interested in taking part or have any questions please contact the project team (study hotline: 0371/531-19938, email: senda@hsw.tu-chemnitz.de).
