Chemnitz Student-Athlete Wins “Golden” Bronze Medal

Max Heß, student at Chemnitz University of Technology, won the bronze medal at the European Indoor Championships 2021 in Torun - For his sporting achievements he was allowed to sign the City of Chemnitz’s Golden Book

For the third time in a row, Max Heß, triple jumper at LAC Erdgas Chemnitz and student of industrial engineering (https://www.tu-chemnitz.de/wirtschaft/studium/master/wiing/) at Chemnitz University of Technology, secured the bronze medal in the triple jump at the European Indoor Championships. After his two third-place finishes in 2017 in Belgrade, Serbia and 2019 in Glasgow, Scotland, the 24-year-old jumped onto the podium again on March 7, 2021 in Torun, Poland. Heß was also able to increase his season's best by one centimeter with his jump of 17.01 meters. Max Heß had already jumped onto the podium at the German Indoor Athletics Championships 2021 in Dortmund. On February 20, 2021, the athlete won gold for the fifth time in the indoor triple jump with 17 meters.

Due to his outstanding sporting achievements, Max Heß was allowed to sign the City of Chemnitz’s Golden Book on March 9, 2021 in the presence of Mayor Sven Schulze.

With the Partner University of Elite Sports initiative, Chemnitz University of Technology in cooperation with the Olympic Training Center Chemnitz/Dresden and German University Sports Federation offers top athletes many opportunities to be able to shape their academic and athletic careers. Students-athletes are offered flexible schedules, special submission and examination dates as well as vacation semesters called “championship semesters.”
