New Mittelstand-Digital Zentrum Chemnitz Starts Work
Chemnitz University of Technology is part of a consortium that supports medium-sized companies in Saxony in the introduction and implementation of digitization solutions
At the beginning of September 2021, the starting signal was given for the new Mittelstand-Digital Zentrum Chemnitz, in which Chemnitz University of Technology is also involved. The center supports medium-sized companies in Saxony, particularly in the introduction and implementation of digitalization solutions. The new project follows on seamlessly from the five years of successful work of the Mittelstand 4.0-Kompetenzzentrum Chemnitz and continues its offerings. For example, the new center provides information and qualifications in workshops and seminars, accompanies projects during their implementation in practice and strengthens the exchange of experience between companies. The thematic focus is on both technological solutions - including the use of artificial intelligence - and digital business models. In addition, there are aspects of IT security and law. The focus is also on ecological and economic sustainability.
Programs for beginners and experienced users
The free programs from the Mittelstand-Digital Zentrum Chemnitz can be taken up in the test and training environments of the individual partners, on-site in companies, or online. They are geared in particular to companies from the manufacturing, trade, and craft sectors as well as from the service sector and take into account different levels of digital maturity - from beginners to experienced users. Interested parties can find more information at https://digitalzentrum-chemnitz.de. The first events can also be booked online on this website shortly.
Triggering digitization and modernizing business models
"We are very pleased that with the Mittelstand-Digital Zentrum Chemnitz we can once again offer Saxon companies a central point of contact for the topics of digitization and Industry 4.0," emphasizes Marco Franke, deputy head of the office of the Mittelstand-Digital Zentrum Chemnitz as well as a research assistant at the Chair of Factory Planning and Intralogistics at Chemnitz University of Technology. He adds: "Companies know that the digital transformation will also play a role for them. It is a matter of recognizing potential as well as advantages and risks and developing a digital strategy. In this, we support and strengthen the competence of the companies. In this way, they will be able to initiate digitization, modernize business models, and bring their employees along with them during the changes."
The Mittelstand-Digital Zentrum Chemnitz will exist for at least three years. The consortium includes five partners. These include Chemnitz University of Technology with the lead Institute of Management Sciences and Factory Systems, consisting of the professorships of Factory Planning and Intralogistics as well as Labor Science and Innovation Management. In addition, the Chair of Private Law and Intellectual Property Law is involved. The Fraunhofer Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technology IWU Chemnitz, the Chemnitz Chamber of Industry and Commerce, tti Technologietransfer und Innovationsförderung Magdeburg GmbH and Wirtschaftsförderung Erzgebirge GmbH are also represented in the consortium.
