Two Gold Medals at the German Indoor Athletics Championships 2022 for Students of Chemnitz University of Technology

Successful Partner University of Elite Sports: Max Heß and Corinna Schwab defended their championship titles in Leipzig

Max Heß and Corinna Schwab, both of whom study at the Chemnitz University of Technology and are sponsored as part of the Partner University of Elite Sports program, succeeded in defending their titles at the 69th German Indoor Athletics Championships (DHM) of the German Athletics Association. The DHM took place in Leipzig on February 26 and 27, 2022. Corinna Schwab secured the gold medal in the 400-meter final with a time of 51.74 seconds and a clear lead. Max Heß, now a six-time champion, took the gold medal with a triple jump of 16.05 meters.

Corinna Schwab dominated the field

After Corinna Schwab of LAC Erdgas Chemnitz had already crossed the finish line as the fastest sprinter in the preliminary race on February 26, 2022, she maintained her top form in the final. With 51.74 seconds (52.01 seconds in 2021), Schwab outran her five competitors and secured her place on the podium with a clear lead as well as the third title in a row. "That was the hat trick, I'm super happy," said a delighted Corinna Schwab.

Max Heß wins sixth championship title and remains record holder

Max Heß of LAC Erdgas Chemnitz followed up his announcement that the title was "of course obligatory" with action on February 26 in Leipzig and jumped onto the winner's podium. "I am very happy that I could win my sixth title at the German Indoor Championships in Leipzig on the weekend - unfortunately, the performance was not quite convincing," said Heß. A distance of 16.05 meters was enough for the industrial engineering student and former European triple jump champion to win the gold medal this year. In 2021, Heß had jumped over 17 meters. According to a report by MDR, Max Heß had been slowed down by heel problems. Nevertheless, he secured the championship title for the sixth time with his victory in Leipzig and is still the record holder with his best performance of 17.52 meters (2017).
