Chemnitz Cricketing Warriors clinch the triangular series

Three teams took part in the Indo-German Cricket Tournament - The final was played between Chemnitz and Halle

The Indo-German Cricket Tournament was held on 7th and 8th July 2012 on the Sports ground of TU Chemnitz. Three teams took part in the tournament - Chemnitz University of Technology, University of Jena and University of Halle-Wittenberg. The tournament was supported by the Institute for Print and Media Technology (pmTUC) and the Professorship of Sports Equipments and Technology (SGT). The Chemnitz Cricketing Warriors have been the titleholders for the last two years.

In the first match on Saturday, the 7th of July 2012, Chemnitz and Jena played against each other. On the same day, the second match was played between Jena and Halle. The winner was Chemnitz for the first match and Halle for the second match.

The Indo-German Fusion Night on Saturday at the Club of Cultures was attended by many students from the university and the guest teams. The music played by DJ Dominik Max and DJ Nagraj was well appreciated by the visitors.

The final was played on Sunday, 8th July between Chemnitz and Halle. After scoring very high in the batting innings, Chemnitz easily won the match which went up to the last over. All in all, both teams played good competitive cricket.

In the presentation ceremony, held by Deep Prakash, the awards were announced. Prof. Dr. Arved Hübler (pmTUC) and Prof. Dr. Stephan Odenwald (SGT) were present to hand over the awards to the winning team and to announce the best player performances. Ashutosh Loyalka from the Chemnitz team received the "Man of the match” award for the first match. Deepak Guduru from Halle and Vinay Achar from Chemnitz received the "Man of the match” award for the second and third match played between Halle-Jena and Halle-Chemnitz. Deep Shah received the "Man of the match” award for the final match while Deepak Panchal, the captain of the Chemnitz team, received the trophy for the best player of the tournament.

The final match between Halle and Chemnitz was well attended by many fans cheering up for the Chemnitz team. The series was a good start to the Indo-German cricket tournament. Chemnitz also received an invitation to join and register the team at the Deutsche Cricket Bund.

We thank the teams from Jena, Halle and all players from Chemnitz and our Chief Motivation Officer & Co-Organizer Dr. Gert Schlegel for their contribution to the tournament. We would also like to thank the university, especially both professors - Prof. Arved Hübler and Prof. Stephan Odenwald - for their motivation and financial support for the tournament.
