Expertise in Demand: Career Service for International Employment

Dr. Christian Genz reported about career entry for international students at the German Rector`s Conference in Bonn – appears proceeding of the first Transnational Career Service Conference

The intensive exchange between national and international expert knowledge in the area of career entry is an important issue of the German Rector´s Conference. Last week, Dr. Christian Genz, the Project Manager of the Career Service was invited to the German Rector´s Conference in Bonn. The audience had the opportunity to hear talks about the "Internationalization of Career Services: The Role of higher education in the transition to the professional life for internationally mobile graduates." Dr. Genz spoke in this context of the experiences of the Career Service of TU Chemnitz in the integration of foreign students into the labor market.

One reason for his invitation to the German Rector´s Conference was the Transnational Career Service Conference at TU Chemnitz, which was held for the first time in March 2014, and served as a platform for the active international exchange of knowledge. 60 European university representatives took part in an intensive discussion with the colleagues from Chemnitz. The results and the content of the conference have now been published in the conference proceedings. The volume includes experience reports by speakers from seven countries, including Britain, Austria, Serbia and the Czech Republic, as well as the results of the workshops. The content also includes the part of an overview of the successful work of the Career Service and the Transnational Career Service, and the cooperation with Czech partner universities in Liberec and Usti nad Labem. "We will strengthen our international activity. The Career Services network in Europe should be further expanded and offer German as well as foreign students more opportunities for a successful career," said Dr. Genz.

The Transnational Career Service Conference proceedings are now available and can also be viewed at the University Library.
