Science – experience and explore

The „Long Night of the Sciences“ takes place during the Chemnitz Museumsnacht and the “Tag der Universität” on May 20, 2017.

Experiencing fascinating research: The “Tag der Universität” of the Chemnitz University of Technology offers a previously unique vast program on May 20, 2017. This also includes the “Long Night of the Sciences”. Experiences, Lectures, Tours, and further events are supposed to encourage and interest everyone for research and sciences. The university sites "Straße der Nationen 62" and "Reichenhainer Straße 70 & 90" open numerous lecture halls, seminar rooms, and laboratories for anyone interested from 6 p.m. until 1 a.m. Scientists of the Chemnitz University present current topics and fascinating research from their field of expertise. As the “Long Night of the Sciences” is integrated into the Chemnitz Museumsnacht, exhibits are shown that are only seldom presented to the public.

With more than 20 event highlights entertainment is guaranteed late into the evening. The program includes a tense experiment lecture, literally, that informs on the works of Nicola Tesla. Chemists produce cold shivers. Mathematicians show how to solve a Rubik’s cube fast and easy. The literary scholars invite to a journey of the Vogtland in the pre-modern period. Cutting-edge technology is presented in the cone light of the flashlight and the university library presents its treasures. Anyone interested can manufacture their own Räuchermännchen (smoking manikin) long before Christmas. This and much more can be experienced and explored in seven hours. For transfer between the university sites the regular transport connections or the Shuttle service of the CVAG in the framework of the Museumsnacht can be used.

Background: The “Tag der Universität”

On May 20 young and old, prospective students, graduates, as well as Chemnitz residents and non-residents come together on the “Tag der Universität”. The doors of the Chemnitz University are literally open – with a program as multifaceted as the University itself from 9 a.m. until 1 a.m. With the “Children’s University”, the “International alumni meeting”, the “Open House Day”, the “Graduation celebration event” and the “Long Night of Sciences” March 20 is a special day. The Chemnitz University invites everyone interested to explore and to get to know the many facets and angles of the university.
