Modern heat supply for the university site Raabestraße
Old heating system is going to be replaced – district heating supply ensured for start in October
On behalf of the state-owned enterprise Sächsisches Immobilien- und Baumanagement (“SIB”) in Chemnitz, the heating system of the university site Wilhelm-Raabe-Straße 43 is currently modernized. When a technological defect caused the breakdown of the heating system in the Wilhelm-Raabe-Straße in January 2017, and teaching and research was interrupted, the Department Technical Facility Management of Chemnitz University reacted. The result of the thorough examination: The over 25 year old gas boiler plant has to be replaced by a new, modern solution. Three requirements are attached to the new technology: “At first, the heat supply has to be ensured, secondly, the conversion to state-of-the-art technology shall increase the energy efficiency, and last but not least, we want to standardize the district heating for the complete university”, explains Marko Büchel, who supervises the conversion of the plant on-site.
The renewal of the plant follows the energetic district concept Altchemnitz and is thus performed by eins energie and the City of Chemnitz. This includes an improvement of the so-called “energetic footprint”, the efficiency. District heating is generated in a high-efficient cogeneration with a share of 97% and thus comparable to the use of renewable energies.
The reconstruction is already underway and is supposed to be finished at the end of September 2017. The concept is funded by the program Nr. 432 “Energetische Stadtsanierung” of the Kredit für Wiederaufbau (KfW).
