Six New Courses of Study Beginning in the 2018/19 Winter Semester

56 items on the agenda at the “Open House Day”: Prospective students can get more information about Chemnitz University’s course offerings – premiere of two modularized Diplom programs

The doors of Chemnitz University of Technology open on March 5th, 2018, -  for secondary school students who want to study at a university, current university students and graduates of all higher education institutions with bachelor’s degrees interesting in pursuing a master’s degree, as well as anyone interested in finding out more about the university. Information booths from all departments and faculties, tours, and lectures will provide a multitude of useful information from 2 pm until 6 pm. All 101 programs offered in the 2018/19 winter semester will be presented, among them the two new modularized Diplom programs in Mathematics and Mechanical Engineering, as well as the four new master’s degree programs in Human Factors, Data Science, Semiotics and Multimodal Communication, and Intercultural German Studies. The event will open with a presentation in the Central Lecture Hall Building at Reichenhainer Straße 90 in auditorium N114 at 2pm.

The schedule includes a variety of events and attractions: mechanical engineers will present textile bicycle spokes, a mobile cross country ski track, and innovative solutions in lightweight design. The Institute of Physics invites attendees to watch experiments at minus 200 degrees Celsius. The mathematicians will show how their field relates to political decisions or self-driving cars. Lightning bolts will be featured in the electrical engineers’ show: they will demonstrate how electrical energy is transmitted wirelessly through the air using a Tesla transformer. A computer scientist will explain how a computer can learn to recognize birds by their singing. Guests can have fun testing their knowledge of English dialects or participate in a Communication Olympiad for language and culture experts. Anyone interested can also participate in an intercultural training. A total of 56 items are on the agenda for the Open House Day.

Prospective students can also gather useful information on internships, career prospects, study financing, accommodation on campus, and studying abroad. Further information on support and advisory services for students with disabilities or chronically ill students of Chemnitz University will also be presented. During the 4 hour “information marathon” event, hungry guests can buy snacks and refreshments at the Studentenwerk Chemnitz-Zwickau’s stand.

To fully take advantage of all of the information and attractions at the Open House Day, which is part of the “TUCtag” festivities, we suggest that guests plan out their visit before they arrive on campus.
