Choosing Your Study Programme: Now Made Easier
Action-packed and exciting: At “Open House Day” on 10 January 2019, Chemnitz University will offer a comprehensive range of counseling services and provide info on 101 degree programmes
On 10 January 2019, many doors will again be open at Chemnitz University of Technology. Between 9:00 and 14:00 in the lecture hall at Reichenhainer Straße 90, 80 short programmes and numerous information stands will be available to prospective students, so that they can find out more information about studying at Chemnitz University. A total of 101 courses will be presented.
The students can choose from a mix of talks, experiment exhibitions, and hands-on offerings: for example, sports equipment technicians can discuss which topics they want to research, and computer scientists can whisk prospective students away to the world of robotics. Mathematicians will use examples such as Amazon and Netflix to explain the mathematics behind the buzzword “Big Data”. Additionally, the electrical engineers will fascinate you with lightning in the lecture hall: the Tesla Coil will show how electrical energy can be transported through the air without cables. The Faculty of Humanities will offer exciting lessons on subjects such as “From Mass Media and Media Masses”, a communication Olympiad, and a "pädagogischer Aktionsraum" ("pedagogical operating space", a space to test your pedagogical skills). Also, the Center for Teacher Education will offer information on their programmes at Chemnitz University.
Guests can also take part in guided tours through various laboratories, where they can experience areas such as lightweight construction, textile technologies, microelectronics and nanoelectronics up close and personal; they can also take a look at the Center for Sensor Technology and Cognition, or observe suspense-filled experiments in the high-voltage laboratory.
The Studentenwerk Chemnitz-Zwickau will give counseling on all social issues, such as living on campus and financing your studies, and it is also possible to visit one of the on-campus dormitories. The International University Centre (IUZ) of Chemnitz University will also give information on the possibility to spend a semester abroad, or complete an internship abroad.
And those who show up to Open House Day not really knowing what they would like to study can take advantage of the offerings of the Central Course Guidance Service and Career Service of Chemnitz University. In addition to individual counseling sessions, an interactive presentation, titled “Choosing Your Study Programme, Made Easy” (Studienwahl leicht gemacht), will help to uncover your own interests and possibilities.
If you would like to hear, see, and experience as much as possible within the five hours, you should be sure to first assemble your individual programme. An overview is available here on the internet: https://www.tu-chemnitz.de/tag-der-offenen-tuer
Other attractions: A presentation of student initiatives and various cooperative partners, distribution of campus gift bags, a photo box (making photos including a gown or a beret possible), and free drinks from Lichtenauer and Vita Cola.
Meals: All guests receive a “TUC” button with their membership card, and with this they can eat at the cafeteria and simply pay the student rate.
