Copyright
The University Library does not provide legal consultancy regarding copyright issues but solely offers non-binding information and assistance for a better understanding of the German copyright law. All information is provided without liability on accuracy and comprehensiveness.
The German copyright law protects literary, scientific and art works. The copyright act is very extensive. It defines the rights of the author on reproduction, usage and presentation who is the sole holder of the rights on her/his elaboration. However, the limitations – so-called “barriers” – of the copyright law are of crucial importance as fortunately they make it possible to use limited parts of an elaboration for certain purposes without asking for consent of the authors or the publishers.
