Evaluation and Management of Sustainable Business Models for Smart Composites
Description: "2BEsmart_R" project is a joint initiative within the SmartERZ alliance, which actively contributes to the enhancement of the innovative capacity of the Erzgebirge (Ore Mountains) economic region in the field of "Smart Materials", particularly innovative material composites. This contribution is facilitated through the collaboration of various research institutions and industrial partners. The overarching goal of SmartERZ is to establish the Erzgebirge (Ore Mountains) region as a high-tech location through joint research and development of functionally integrated materials. "2BEsmart_R" specifically addresses the area of sustainable business models in the context of innovative material composites. The project focuses on the systematic design and software-supported realization of a methodology for evaluating and managing the sustainability of business models in the technology sector of Smart Composites. Motivation: In view of current social, structural and political changes, it is clear that the exclusive focus on economic interests is no longer sustainable for companies and entire economic regions. Instead, the ecological and social impact of entrepreneurial activity must be taken into account in corporate decisions in order to ensure sustainable business activities. The adjustment of business models to meet these new legal and societal requirements as well as consideration of new target dimensions present a significant challenge for many companies. This is especially true for innovative business models and applications in the domain of Smart Composites, which are expected to play a crucial role in sustainability-oriented key industries in the future. Objectives: The project aims to develop and implement a software-supported methodology for evaluating and managing the sustainability of business models in the context of technological innovations in the field of Smart Composites. This should enable small and medium-sized companies in particular to manage the sustainability of their products and technologies in a systematic manner, taking into account economic, ecological and social aspects, and to provide evidence for stakeholders. Thus, the insights gained in the project are to be used to promote informed and sustainability-focused decisions, paving the way for sustainable business models. Within the scope of this project, the tasks of Chair of Management Accounting and Control are focused on the following key areas:- Analysis of the requirements and development of a suitable database for the design of the methodology for evaluating and managing the sustainability of business models
- Business model and product analysis of classic construction methods in comparison to function-integrated construction methods
- Development of a methodology for evaluating and managing business models in the technology sector of Smart Composites
- Development of a business model for the business unit of the Smart Composites Academy "smartConsult"
- Transfer and utilization of the methodology using the example of a test scenario
- Department of Lightweight Structures and Polymer Technology (TU Chemnitz)
- MENNEKES Elektrotechnik Sachsen GmbH
- Apromace data systems GmbH
Funding: "2BEsmart_R" project is sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research as part of the "WIR! – Wandel durch Innovation in der Region" program.
