Repetition of examinations
Regulations for the repetition of
There is no possibility of compensating examinations that are marked with "passing required" ("bestehen erforderlich") with other examinations. These examinations must be passed. If such an examination is graded with the grade "5,0" the module is also considered as not passed.
You can repeat a failed examination once within one year. If the result of the repetition is not graded at least as “sufficient” or the deadline of one year is exceeded, the module and also the course of study are considered as not passed for the second time.
You have the opportunity to repeat the examination again at the next possible examination date. If this repetition is not graded at least as “sufficient” or the deadline is exceeded, the module and also the course of study are considered not as irrevocable not passed.
Another repetition of the examination is not possible.
An irrevocable-not-passed module will automatically result in the final failure of your course of study. Consequently, disenrollment will automatically occur due to the irrevocable failure of an examination.
Example of a module consisting of two compensable examinations and one non-compensable examination (see legend below):
You have the opportunity to repeat examinations of the module that have been evaluated as "insufficient" to the extent necessary to pass the module.
Please note that you can only repeat examinations if you have completed all examinations comprising a module at least once.
Example of a module consisting of three compensable examinations (see legend below):
A repetition of an examination is not permitted if
- you have not yet completed all required examinations of a module1 at least once,
- you have already passed the individual examination (improvement attempts are not possible, except for the free attempt regulations, which remain unaffected by compensation),
- you have already passed the module, or
- you have permanently failed the module.
1 These examinations are either prescribed within a module or can be selected from a varity of examinations.
If the unsuccessful examinations are repeated and the resulting module grade is “insufficient”, it means that the module examination and consequently the course of study has not been passed on the second attempt.
Each examination can be repeated a maximum of 2 times within a specified timeframe. The timeframe ends at the next available examination date after one year. If all "insufficient" attempts have been retaken twice and still result as "insufficient", or if the deadline mentioned earlier has passed, the module is considered as permanently failed.
Further repetitions of examinations are not permitted.
A module is considered as permanently not passed as soon as
- all required examinations have been completed at least once and the module was graded with the grade "5,0" after the third attempt, or
- the failed examinations are not repeated within the timeframe.
An irrevocable-not-passed module will automatically result in the final failure of your course of study. Consequently, disenrollment will automatically occur due to the irrevocable failure of an examination.<
Repeating successfully passed examinations is not permitted.
