Welcome to the Professorship Adaptronics and Lightweight Design (in Production)

In April 2014 at the Institute for Machine Tools and Production Processes (IWP) at the TU Chemnitz was founded a unique in Germany Professorship Adaptronics and Lightweight Design in Production, which focuses on solving technical problems using intelligent adaptronic structures such as piezoceramics or thermal shape memory alloys.

The Director of Fraunhofer IWU in the Scientific Field Mechatronics and Lightweight Structures Prof. Dr.-Ing. Welf - Guntram Drossel assumed the management of the professorship with 9 scientific and 1 technical employee.

The professorship with its team considers itself as a competence partner in research, industry and education for application-oriented development of adaptronic systems by spatial and functional integration of smart materials in structures.
