Teaching

The courses at the department Sports Equipment & Technology are oriented to be interdisciplinary in order to establish a connection between engineering and human-science. A short outline of the contents of the subjects is given below. A detailed description of the individual classes and modules can be found in the study regulations of the particular course.

Organisation

Study programme:
BA Sports Engineering (1st semester)
Semester:
winter term
Extent:
2 LVS lectures, 1 LVS practical (120WL, 4 Credits)
Responsible teacher:
Prof. Odenwald

Content

Within the module there is an introduction to the interdisciplinary field of research of sports equipment technology. The focal point is set on the imagination of the fundamental approach in the development of technical products under consideration of the interaction human-technology. On the basis of selected sports function- and construction principles are taught. In practical classes specific problems of sport equipment technology get exemplified in experiments.

Organisation

Study programme:
BA Sports Engineering (3rd semester)
Semester:
winter term
Extent:
2 LVS lectures, 2 LVS exercise (150WL, 5 Credits)
Responsible teacher:
Prof. Odenwald

Content

The lecture specific Sports Engineering discusses the in-depth design of sports equipment technology under aspects like vibrational strain or flow resistance. During the exercises the content taught in the lectures gets deepened, repeated and applied in specific tasks.

Organisation

Study programme:
BA Sports Engineering (5th semester)
Semester:
winter term
Extent:
1 LVS lecture, 2 LVS practical (150WL, 5 Credits)
Responsible teacher:
Prof. Odenwald

Content

Within the module a comprising insight about measurement methods and scientific analyses in sports technology is given. In the lectures the theory about the design of measurement processes is explained. The focal point is set on the characteristics of the analysis of motion and strain during the synergy of human and technology. In the practical lessons students get the opportunity to autonomously comprehend essential steps of various measurement technologies like Selection of Sensors, calibration, measurement setup, data capture, data analysis, etc.

Organisation

Study programme:
BA Medical Engineering (4th semester)
Semester:
summer term
Extent:
2 LVS lectures, 1 LVS practical (120WL, 4 Credits)
Responsible teacher:
Ms. Püschel

Content

Basics of modern instrumentation in the field of human medicine are taught in the lectures and deepened in the practical classes. Imaging methods like X-ray diagnostics, magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography are examined. Furthermore procedures and technologies for monitoring of lungfunction diagnostics and spiroergometry are presented. Further on minimally invasive procedures and catheter technologies are discussed.

Study programme:
MA Medical Engineering (2nd semester)
Semester:
winter term
Extent:
1 LVS lecture, 2 LVS exercise (150WL, 5 Credits)
Responsible teacher:
Dr. Schwanitz

Content

The lecture and exercise Instrumentation in Medical Engineering imparts the procedures and specific demands for the equipment of medical devices and patients with metrological facilities. The general approach for selecting the suitable sensors for different measurement tasks and the respective conception and setup of the measurement chain is taught. Medical devices and probands will be instrumented to collect data for respective parameters that contribute as part of the analysis of the interface human-technology.

Organisation

Study programme:
MA Medical Engineering (2nd semester)
Semester
winter term
Extent:
2 LVS seminar (120WL, 4 Credits)
Responsible teacher:
Dr. Schwanitz

Content

In the seminar tasks and meaning of mechanical testing procedures for the development of medical products (for example prostheses and ortheses) is explained. Thereby the general approach of design and setup of testing procedures is shown. Especially considered will be the simulation of biomechanical realities by the use of test arrangements and test methods. Furthermore it is imparted how mechanical properties can be measured and analysed through test rig and test object.
