European University of Cyprus, Nicosia
Located south of Turkey and west of Syria and Lebanon, the history of Cyprus has been characterised by cross-cultural encounters with peoples as diverse as the Romans, the Venetians, and the Ottomans shaping the culture of this eastern Mediterranean island. Having been a British colony for over 80 years, Cyprus gained independence in 1960. Though no longer an official language, English is still spoken in many parts of the island. Since the island’s partition in 1974, Cyprus has been divided into a Turkish north and a Greek south. This geo-political borderline also separates its capital Nicosia into two parts. Not only does Nicosia’s cityscape reflect the island’s complex cultural and historical heritage but it is also a vibrant place and home of many nationalities … Funded by the ERASMUS exchange programme, the chair of English Literatures provides three students per semester the opportunity to enrol in the BA programme in English Language and Literature at the European University Cyprus in Nicosia. |
