Research focus on Migration, Flight and Arrival
One main focus of our work is the European migration research, e.g. in the field of labor or student migration, which has been strengthened since 2014 with a emphasis on flight and arrival. We focus on studying mobility processes of refugees through Europe based on approaches from mobility and migration research as well as processes of arrival, with a focus on smaller and rural communities in Germany. We take a multi-perspective view of the process of arrival, considering not only the experiences and perspectives of arriving refugees, but also the structural and political framework as well as the attitudes and attitudinal patterns of the local population in the places of arrival. We are networked in diverse ways in this field and are in intensive exchange with researchers within Germany, Europe, and worldwide through research projects, conferences, and publication projects.
The following projects deepen the research field:
- Book Project „Nach der Flucht: Ankunft und Annäherung aus sozialgeographischer Perspektive“ (Birgit Glorius)
- Handbook "Flucht- und Flüchtlingsforschung" (Birgit Glorius)
- Vierte Konferenz des Netzwerks Fluchtforschung e.V. (28.-30. September 2022)
- WholeCOMM: Exploring the Integration of Post-2014-Migrants in Small and Medium-Sized Towns and Rural Areas from a Whole of Community Perspective (Horizon2020)
