Wave games

In line with the motto "C the unseen", our project "Wellenspiele" (Wave Games) shines a spotlight on an existing work of art on the Chemnitz University of Technology campus. It follows the trajectory "feel-hear-see" along the parameters of wave phenomena (vibration, resonance phenomena of sound and colour) up to the high-frequency spectrum that is no longer perceptible to humans. With its science-led, interdisciplinary approach from the perspectives of the natural sciences and engineering, it enables wave phenomena to be presented to the public at open days, the Long Night of Science and even as a means of recruiting students, particularly for STEM subjects. The main project goals are

  • the further development of the outdoor format for the Open Day on the artwork "Thinking and Perception Model of Colour" by artist Stefan Nestler (1998) in front of the Central Auditorium and Seminar Building and
  • a mobile demonstrator for wave phenomena based on this concept, and
  • selected scientific guest lectures and networking events on interdisciplinary topics related to the theme of "wave games" (e.g. musical acoustics, marine research, materials research and art).
