Business Mathematics, Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) / Master of Science (M.Sc.)

Standard period of study:
  • for the Bachelor program: 6 semesters
  • for the Master program: 4 semesters
Start of studies:
  • for the Bachelor program: usually with the winter semester
  • for the Master program: winter or summer semester
Entrance requirement:
  • for the Bachelor program: general higher education entrance qualification (Abitur, A level, high-school diploma) or subject-linked eligibility of university admission or master craftman or an equivalently approved university admission.
  • for the Master program: Bachelor degree in Business Mathematics or an equivalent degree
Language:
  • Be aware that courses are normally offered in German only.

Application

There is no admission restriction for this degree program. Application is made online. The respective study program is called "Mathematik". (For the Master phase one has to select the option "konsekutiver Master" in "Form des Studiums".) The choice of the field of study, whether Mathematics, Mathematics with Computer Science, Industrial Mathematics, Financial Mathematics oder Business Mathematics is made later after the start of studies without any bureaucracy.

The change to another field of study is generally possible during the studies. Please consider the special features of the minor subject respectively the technical minor subject of the other fields of study. It is recommended to contact your academic advisor . Grafik Semester im Bachelor-/Masterstudium If one decides during the Bachelor to continue with the Master studies in the combined Bachelor/Master degree program, one can already attend courses of the Master phase during the Bachelor phase, whose successful passing will be accredited in the Master program. This method prevents delays in the timing of the studies which otherwise might arise in the organization of the transition from the Bachelor to the Master studies.

Bachelor study program Business Mathematics within the combined program

This study program is based on a solid mathematical basis training as well as the most important basics of the computer sciences. The education in the Business administration consists of the basics in business and public economics as well as in accounting.
  • Option 1: macroeconomics, basics of founding and investment, basics of production management and marketing
  • Option 2: vector analysis, basics of founding and investment, basics of production management and marketing
  • Option 3: vector analysis, macroeconomics, basics of production management
The TU Chemnitz offers a broad spectrum of lectures in the humane and sociological sciences whose attendence is recommended for business mathematicians. In addition, the learning of a foreign language provides an important requirement for the later successful work under the conditions of a global job market.
The Bachelor thesis can be built on the content of a six-week internship. The thesis is normally written in the 6th semester.

Master study program Business Mathematics

The Master study program consists of a comprehensive range of elective specialization modules on Mathematical Broad Training, Business Mathematics, Computer Science, Business Administration. For example, within the Business Mathemtics one can choose from lectures on optimization/operations research or stochastics/financial mathematics. Within the Business administration there are lectures including the German Civil Code, German Commercial Code as well as career-oriented lectures.

Business mathematicians can discharge various duties, ranging from the modeling and optimal design of economic and sociological processes, the product development in financial and insurance business to market research and consulting.
