The Studentenwerk Chemnitz (Chemnitz Student Administration) is in charge of the social and cultural well-being of all students.

The Student Services Chemnitz/Zwickau (Studentenwerk) run several self-catering student residences on campus: on Vettersstraße, Thüringer Weg and Reichenhainer Straße. All residences are within easy reach of each other as well as the lecture halls, computer pools, the university libraries and sports facilities.

International students can apply for a single room or a bed in a double room in one of these residences. The prices depend on the furnishings of the room and vary between €90 and €190 per month. Before signing the lease contract, a deposit of approx. twice the monthly rent has to be paid on the room.

All student residences are connected to the internet and for an annual fee of €25 students can go online with their own PCs.

If exchange students would like to live in residence during their stay, they are asked to tick the respective box on the CUT application form. The staff of the IUK will then make a reservation for them. Note, however, that we cannot fully guarantee accommodation in any one of the residences. We strongly recommend you to bring your own bed sheets, otherwise you will have to rent a set for a fee of €6.

In case it is not possible for you to move into one of the residences on the day of your arrival, you may wish to contact the Chemnitz youth hostel and stay there for the first couple of nights.

Catering

All University residences are self-catering. A good and inexpensive hot lunch can be had in one of three refectories (Mensa). During the term 6,000 students eat there. A choice of four meals is provided, in addition to salads and desserts. Prices for a meal vary between € 1,30 and € 2,00.

Cost of Living

The cost of living in Chemnitz is still comparatively low. It is estimated that a single student should budget € 350 to € 500 each month to cover all living expenses.
