Trung V. Phan earned his B.S. degree in Electronics and Telecommunications from Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST), Vietnam, in 2015, and his M.S. degree in Information and Communication Technologies from Soongsil University, Seoul, Korea, in 2017. He is currently PhD student and research assistant at the Chair for Communication Networks in the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at Chemnitz University of Technology (TUC), Germany. His research interests include Network Security, Deep Reinforcement Learning, Federated Learning, Transfer Learning, Software-Defined Networking, the Internet of Things, and 5G/6G Networks.
  • Network Security with Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL): Developing DRL-based methods to enhance intrusion detection, anomaly detection and threat response in dynamic network environments.
  • Federated Learning for Network Security: Implementing privacy-preserving, decentralized learning techniques for secure communication networks and distributed IoT systems.
  • Transfer Learning in Networking: Applying transfer learning to optimize resource utilization and accelerate model training across diverse network scenarios, such as SDN and IoT.
  • Software-Defined Networking (SDN): Leveraging SDN to improve network programmability, scalability, and resilience against cyber threats through AI-driven solutions.
  • 5G/6G Networks: Exploring innovative approaches for enhancing security, efficiency, and reliability in next-generation wireless networks using AI and machine learning.
  • SENDATE. (Secure Networking for a Data Centre Cloud in Europe). European Celtic-Plus project funded from 2016 till 2019 by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research BMBF (Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung). Project status: Completed. Role: Research Assistant.
  • AI-NET-PROTECT. (Artificial Intelligence Networking Providing Resilient and Secure Networks to Critical Infrastructures). European Celtic-Plus project funded from 2021 till 2024 by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research BMBF (Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung). Project status: Completed. Role: Research Assistant.
  • MNT-Pro. (Mobile Network Protector). A cooperation project between ipoque GmbH and Chemnitz University of Technology funded from 2022 till 2025 by Federal Office for Information Security (BSI). Project status: Ongoing. Role: Research Assistant.
