Workshop in Germany (24.06.2024 - 28.06.2024)

The workshop began with a welcome speech by Prof. Dr. Dr. h. c. Wolfram Hardt at the Stiftung Internationales Informatik- und Begegnungszentrum Sachsen in Lauta. Following this, participants from TUC (Germany), UDST (Qatar), and UJ (Jordan) gave brief presentations on their teaching and research areas. In the afternoon, a seminar on Inclusion Mindset was held, followed by socializing and networking over a barbecue at IBS, allowing participants to interact and build connections in a relaxed environment.

The second day started with a presentation by Dr. Yazan Al-Zain from the Drones Lab in Jordan, followed by Dr. Mohannad ALjarrah from the Drones Lab in Qatar. Prof. Dr. Gheith Abandah then discussed the architectures and applications of large language models. The session continued with Prof. Dr. Ruba Obiedat and Dr. Dima Suleiman presenting on deep learning-based applications on drones’ images. After a coffee break, Dr. Hassan Mahasneh from Qatar presented on environmental research and projects, followed by Dr. Mohammad Abdel-Majeed and Dr. Mohammad Almashagbeh discussing AI applications in the field of dentistry. After lunch, participants visited the Energy Factory Knappenrode for an English guided tour. The day ended with an introduction to the RescueFly Project at Partwitzer See, covering its objectives, challenges, innovations, and an Q&A session.

The third day began with Ms. Lara Al-Shboul (Ph.D. student) presenting on drone surveillance in catastrophe-affected areas using deep learning techniques. This was followed by Eng. Albaraa’ Alkilani (MSc student) discussing the use of drone clusters in SAR missions. After a coffee break, participants checked out and returned to Chemnitz, marking the end of the day’s activities. On Thursday the participants visited the Automotive Lab for a seminar in cooperation with Elektrobit Automotive GmbH at TU Chemnitz Professorship Computer Engineering. The visit included a Q&A session and discussion following a coffee break. After lunch, there was an interactive session on project planning and execution conducted by SAXEED. The day concluded with a coffee break and get-together, providing another opportunity for participants to engage and network.

The final day began with a discussion on workshop insights at TU Chemnitz Professorship Computer Engineering. This was followed by a session discussing the accomplishments, challenges, and limitations encountered during the workshop. After a coffee break, participants engaged in planning for the next workshop, featuring an ideas competition. Following lunch, the focus shifted to future collaborative projects. The day wrapped up with closing remarks and next steps, concluding with a get-together session to celebrate the week’s activities and solidify connections made during the workshop.
